Greenstone Jade Maori Jewellery FAQs

Where do you ship from?

We source and ship everything from our home, New Zealand.

Has it been blessed?

No, the jewellery has not been blessed.  We can get that done for you, but this is something you should do, or get done, when gifting the pounamu.

Does my piece of greenstone jewellery come with a certificate of authenticity?

Only our Ngai Tahu branded greenstone jewellery comes with a certificate of authenticity, providing you with details of the stone the item was carved from.  Ngai Tahu are the kaitiaki of South Island greenstone, so all pounamu comes from them in the first instance.  Carvers purchase the rock from them, and then carve it and supply us with the jewellery.  From the carver through to us, we back the authenticity of the greenstone - we just don't supply a certificate.

Who is the carver?

All our greenstone jewellery is made by groups of carvers, so we are not able to identify the individual carver.  If this is important to you, we recommend you search for and approach a carver to make a piece for you.

Where does the pounamu come from?

The pounamu comes from the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand, around the Hokitika area.

Is it made from NZ greenstone (pounamu)?

Most of our greenstone jewellery is made from New Zealand greenstone, and all items made from pounamu include in their description that they are made from "genuine NZ greenstone".  To only view NZ greenstone jewellery, choose this section:

We also stock a small number of items made from Canadian greenstone, because the same item is not available in New Zealand.

Can I buy greenstone for myself, and can I wear greenstone if I am not Maori?

Ideally you are gifted a greenstone, rather than buying it for yourself. See if you can get someone else to do the buying on your behalf. You absolutely do not have to be Maori to wear it.
