When gifting a patu, this Māori Korowai can cover the patu until it is handed over.
Draping a korowai over a patu gift acts as a symbolic transformation of what was traditionally an instrument of strife to a taonga (treasure) of achievement and honour.
This Māori feather cloak has a correct name of kahu huruhuru, but many still call it a korowai. It is made in New Zealand by a Māori woman of Ngāti Porou descent. The korowai is machine stitched, making it much more affordable than traditionally made cloaks.
Its measurements are approximately 39cm x 60cm, perfect size to cover patu, wahaika, kotiate, and mere, including those on display stands.
The feathers used are white and blue, and the taniko is blue, white and black. We are happy to change the colours to suit. We just need a couple of weeks to make the magic happen. The feather colours available are here >>>
