Intricately Carved 12.5cm Maori Bone Manaia Necklace

The workmanship in this intricately carved 12.5cm Bone Manaia Necklace is incredible.

The cow bone pendant consists of two entwined Manaia, the Maori spiritual provider over land, sea and air.

The Manaia is believed to ward off intruders and evil spirits.

They have birdlike heads, representing the sky, and often have features of sea creatures, which you can see in the tails.  

Each manaia has a paua shell eye.

Notice the very fine, intricate carving over most of the necklace.  

The manaia hangs from a long black adjustable cord.  The bone carving is approximately 12.5cm (5") long.
