Full Size Maori Taiaha with Carved Shaft and Head

This Taiaha artefact is a particularly fine piece, with carving on the head and the end of the shaft.  Use as a presentation piece or for mau rakau. Full-size Taiaha are prized around the world, especially for collectors, members of Maori cultural parties abroad, and as gifts for birthdays, especially 21st. 

This is a full-size Taiaha, measuring approximately 5 feet (152cm) in length. It is made from sustainly harvested Tulip Wood, a light but very strong hardwood.  So this taiaha can be used for mau rakau.

The Taiaha is most accurately described as a pointed staff. The pointed end is a carved head, with paua shell eyes and an extended, defiant tongue. Just like the traditional Taiaha, this authentic replica Taiaha is carved the same on both sides. Feathers decorate the shaft just below the head.

The middle section of the Taiaha, the shaft, is usually slightly oval, as in this example. The lower section is flattened. On this Taiaha, the lower section is carved on both sides with Maori koru.  Please note that the carvers may slightly vary the carving from time to time.

DISPLAY STAND: An optional display stand is available, made from the same timber as the taiaha.  

SHIPPING: Shipping outside of New Zealand is by Express Courier only ( TNT or DHL), due to the length of the taiaha. Please only select the Express Courier option at Checkout, as this is the only way this long item can be shipped. Delivery time is normally about 4 working days.

ENGRAVING: If you would like to give this as a birthday present, we can laser engrave the person's name on the taiaha. Or paua engrave, but there is a limit of 12 characters if paua engraved.  The paua engraving is only done in CAPITALS. 

If the name is longer than that, or you want to add a birthdate as well, the only way to do that is to purchase the stand, and we can engrave the stand instead.   The options are to have an engraved gold plaque, or the name and birthdate laser engraved into the stand, or the name paua engraved into the stand (with a limit of 18 characters, in CAPITALS).
