This Maori Wheku Necklace is made from one of our most beautiful New Zealand timbers, Kauri. Crafted from ancient swamp kauri, the timber is estimated to be more than 40,000 years old!
Wheku, meaning 'carved face', depicts the face of the ancestor. The Wheku is generally found at the apex of the gable on a Wharenui, the Maori meeting house, symbolising an important ancestor after whom the house was named.
This Wheku measures approximately 5.5cm x 3.7cm x 0.7cm (2 1/8" x 1 1/2 x 1/4").
It rests on a long traditional black cord.
Proudly made in New Zealand.
