This Silver and Paua Shell Manaia Necklace represents the Maori symbol of protection and warding off evil, the Manaia.
The Manaia has a bird like head, and is a provider and protector over land, sea and sky, so the paua shell beautifully represents the sea.
The manaia pendant measures approximately 3.9cm (1 1/2") long, and hangs from a 45cm long chain.
Paua shell is New Zealand's native abalone shell, found only in NZ waters. It contains irridescent shades of blue, green, pink and purple, and no two pieces are the same.
Within the silver filigree section are Maori Koru, representing the unfurling new fern shoot, and signifying peace, tranquility, new beginnings, and positive change. Also within that area are two sparkly diamantes.
