This Genuine NZ Greenstone Toki Necklace with Two Cutout Koru is a beautiful piece of pounamu carving.
The approximately 7cm (2 3/4") long toki (adze) has two beautifully carved out Koru. As these are handcarved, the size as well as the placement of the koru may vary a little. The toki edge at the bottom is rounded. It hangs from a black cord with adjustable knots, so you can place it where you want on your chest.
The Toki (adze) was an important Maori implement, used to chip and shave wood and stone, and sometimes used as a weapon. In bone or greenstone, the hei toki was traditionally worn by Maori elders, as it represented power, wisdom and authority.
The Koru design also carries a spiritual meaning. The Koru represents the unfurling new fern shoot, and signifies peace, tranquility, new beginnings, and positive change.
With all the positive spiritual meanings, this is a lovely piece to give to a friend or loved one.
