Plush Cuddly Tuna - New Zealand Longfin Eel

This plush cuddly toy is made to represent New Zealand's tuna, our native Longfin Eel.  This freshwater eel can grow up to 2 metres in length.  What is even more remarkable is that whilst it lives in fresh water in New Zealand, when it is ready to breed at the end of its relatively long life, it heads downstream to the ocean, and then to spawning grounds near Tonga, about 2000 km away! 

I'm on a mission to take the fear out of kids' minds for New Zealand's creepy crawlies and other creatures - one plush toy at a time.  Conservation of these eels is hugely important, so we need to educate our children to look after the eels and their habitat.  What better way than to start with a cuddly toy, and a bit of education along the way.

This lovely eel measures approximately 54cm (21 1/4") long.

Shall we call her "Tina Tuna"?!
