This stunning Chocolate Brown Master Carver Designed Māori Tattoo Mug was designed by Tohunga Whakairo Rākau (Master Carver) and author, Clive Fugill.

Until 2023 when he retired, Clive was the longest serving teacher (kaiako) at the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute in Rotorua, teaching generations of carvers about traditional whakairo (carving).

Clive has affiliations to Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Rangiwewehi and Ngāti Tūkorehe, and has received many awards for his carving, writing, and contributions to society.

The intricate design on the mug features a Wheku and other Māori carving designs, as well as the words NEW ZEALAND and WHAKAIRO (carving) incorporated into the design.
