This Māori White and Paua Blue Short Feather Korowai is perfect for graduations or other ceremonies where it provides the look of a korowai without the full length.
This korowai, or kahu huruhuru to be exact, is made by a Māori lady of Ngāti Porou descent. It has a knitted taniko top, with white feathers at the top and paua blue feathers. If you want different coloured feathers, let us know. You can choose different coloured feathers here.
The taniko has a patiki pattern. Pātiki (flounder) designs are based on the diamond shape of the flounder fish. The flounder is a symbol of favourable times, prosperity and good luck.
This korowai measures approximately 1m wide, and 20cm (8") deep. It is lined.
NB: If we are out of stock at the time you order, allow 2 weeks for it to be made.
Proudly Māori made in New Zealand, and shipped worldwide.
The korowai is also available in a deluxe black gift box - perfect if this is a presentation piece. The photo of the boxed short korowai is a representative photo, showing one of our other short korowai boxed.

I had the privilege of gifting a korowai to my cousin for his graduation with a Master’s degree in American Samoa. I traveled all the way from Aotearoa to attend the ceremony, and this korowai became a powerful symbol of my personal journey and the respect and love of our whanau back home in Aotearoa who couldn’t be there in person.
This korowai was the perfect gift. It is crafted with incredible quality, with rich, durable fabric and intricate designs that speak to the deep traditions of our culture. You can feel the craftsmanship in every detail, and it’s clear that it was made with care and pride.
For me, gifting this korowai was a way to bring a piece of our whanau’s presence to my cousin’s graduation. It was a representation of the love, support, and respect from our family who weren’t able to be there physically, but were there in spirit. The gown carried all that sentiment and more, and my cousin was deeply moved by the gesture.
The korowai added an extra layer of significance to my cousin’s special day, helping to bridge the distance between Aotearoa and American Samoa. If you’re looking for a gift that carries deep meaning, cultural heritage, and exceptional craftsmanship, I highly recommend this korowai. It’s not just a gift, it’s a beautiful way to honor someone and show respect for your shared culture and family.
