Mackintosh's Toffees

Mackintosh's Toffees have been around for what seems like forever. They are a favorite, unbeaten by any of the newer candies. There are several different flavors in the packet ( my favorite is Malt...or maybe Harrogate...I'd better go try them again!), they are great for lolly scrambles, and everyone seems to love them.

Here's the history, as told on the packet:

John Mackintosh opened his first retail shop in Halifax, Yorkshire ( England) in 1890 with the aim of providing only the best specialties. He decided he needed a special line of sweets that would be unique to his shop. At that time there was very little in the way of Toffee as we know it today. English toffee was mostly hard and brittle; Caramels from America was very soft. And thus came the idea to blend the two to form a unique toffee.
