This Maori Bone Carved Hook Heru is a hair comb traditionally worn in a top knot.  It is an affordable heru perfect for kapa haka performances and simply for decorating your hair.

Heru indicated the rank of the wearer and were often carved from a single piece of wood, whale bone or were made of many individual wooden prongs intricately bound together.

This cow bone matau heru measures approximately 16cm (6 1/4") long.

The Fish Hook design carries a spiritual meaning, one of peace, prosperity, and good health, and safe travel over water.
