This Hei Matau Hook Maori Trophy is a lovely piece of carving to display on a shelf or give as a trophy.
The matau represents the fish hook. According to Maori legend, the North Island of New Zealand was once a huge fish that was caught by the great mariner, Maui, using a bone hook on a woven line. Spiritually, the matau is believed to bring peace, prosperity and good health, and safe travel over water.
This Matau Trophy is made from Tulip Wood, a sustainably harvested hardwood, and measures approximately 31.5cm (12 3/8") tall, including the base. The bottom of the base measures approximately 13.5cm x 6.5cm x 4.5cm (5 1/4" x 2 1/2" x 1 3/4").
A nice feature of the trophy is that it is double sided, with a slightly plainer carving on the back.
For an additional charge, we can get the trophy engraved - up to 10 words onto a gold plaque, or 10 words laser engraved into the base. Please note that engraved trophies cannot be returned. Alternatively the base can be paua engraved - but only up to 10 characters, in CAPITALS only. Allow 3-4 days for engraving to be done.
