These Maori Tekoteko Koru Jandals ( you might call them flip flops) have a very cool design printed on them.
The design, shared across the two jandals, is of a Maori tekoteko, a formal carved human figure usually found at the apex of the roof of a Maori meeting house. The figure usually looks quite fearsome, as it was a warning to anyone approaching the marae. This tekoteko holds a greenstone mere (club).
Next to the tekoteko figure is a lovely traditional kowhaiwhai pattern, consisting of a series of Maori Koru. The koru design carries a spiritual meaning, one of peace, tranquility, personal growth, and positive change.
The bottom of the sole is a lightly ridged EVA rubber. The thong section is black canvas, with a red fringe and "New Zealand" printed on it in white.
Maori jandals are very popular items. Enjoy wearing yours!
