About our New Zealand Artists
VALERIE BEALE
For Valerie Beale, art is a lifetime commitment.  Although she attended some art classes in the early years, she describes herself as a self taught artist, having painted full-time professionally for the past 20 years.
Over the years she has learned to interpret something seen, remembered or imagined; a slight gesture or pose may be the inspiration for a painting.

Her art philosophy involves challenging herself, developing ideas and experimenting (mainly with acrylics).
Valerie Beale chooses to paint ordinary people, women, the matriarchs of the Pacific, expressing their gentle dignity and serenity.  She has been inspired by her extended Samoan family and many visits to the Islands.  Her goal as a painter is for the viewer to feel an emotional attachment to the subjects, and for her paintings to be a source of inspiration in their lives.

NICK FEINT
Here is information supplied by Nick Feint:
My name is Nick Feint and I live at an Intentional Community called Tui in Golden Bay with my partner Sybille and child Theo.   We enjoy a fantastic lifestyle with a beach across the road, Abel Tasman National Park across the fence and great weather.  I have built my dream studio here to work from and get a real kick out of having all the tools I need at my fingertips, although like any good workshop it is always a work in progress.

Stone Arrow Jewellery is a small manufacturing jewellery business I have been running for about 10 years selling work through galleries all over New Zealand.

My more creative urges are poured into my passion for stone carving,  mostly Pounamu but anything real hard is fine by me.   I have had pieces accepted into the New Zealand National Pounamu and Jade Exhibition in 2000, 2002 and 2004.  In 2000 I won the Premier Award for Adornment with my work Pod now on permanent display in the National Collection in the Left Bank Art Gallery in Greymouth.

One of my favorite design mottos is you can never have too many spirals although I do occasionally make things without spirals in them.  My main inspiration comes from nature and natural forms, I like to work with the natural shape of the stone when I can.  Mostly an image comes into my head when I hold a piece of stone and I go for it.

DOUGLAS PARRY FERRIS
Douglas Ferris was born in Hastings, New Zealand, and belongs to the Ngati Porou Maori tribe.  He grew up enjoying drawing and painting.  As he studied the Masters his passion grew, and heightened his desire in drawing.  Cezanne said "Man is the ultimate art".  This is the statement Douglas Ferris has adopted as his philosophy.
